Description
Welcome to our FRESH, local and responsibly caught Cape Bream. This is the Fish With A Story ‘Catch of the Day’ (COTD); you may PRE-ORDER and pay upfront, and we will contact you to deliver as soon as our fishers have had a successful day out in the boats (usually within 3-5 days with this species).
Your fresh fish will be delivered – on ice – WHOLE, scaled and gutted. Note that we are avoiding the use of single-use plastics wherever we can, so please make sure that you have your own container ready for us to put your beautifully fresh Cape Bream into. Choose from two (approximate) sizes – Large or Medium.
**Important notes for the fresh, whole range of Fish With A Story:
- There may well be a slight delay with your order, as COTD is entirely dependant on fishing conditions and nature! We only make one delivery for your cart, so if you have other items in your cart that you need urgently please place a separate order for those.
- We can only deliver fresh fish within a +/- 60km radius of the Cape Town metropole – please email us to check for your area if necessary: marketplace@abalobi.org
- For other, less common species please try the ABALOBI Marketplace app. You may also register for an account via the app and sign up for push notifications to get real time updates of all fresh ‘Catch of the Day’ coming through the Marketplace.
About Cape Bream
The Cape Bream is a previously undervalued species that occurs in natural abundance and is harvested year round. With its cooking versatility, it is well known within local Western Cape communities and has recently gained mainstream prominence with top Chefs in Cape Town and beyond through ABALOBI’s Fish With A Story programme.
Quick ‘n Easy top tip for braai’ed whole Cape Bream:
- Brush the whole Bream both sides with a little softened butter mix (butter, parsley, crushed garlic, a squeeze of lemon, a pinch of chilli and pinch of salt).
- Score the fish 3-4 times and stuff with some soft butter on each side.
- Put the fish into a grid and braai for 6–8 minutes, turning halfway.
- The fish is ready when it flakes to the bone.
